Q: I live outside of Australia; how can I make a reservation?
A: The most effective way of making a reservation is using the Low Cost Car Rentals availability request. Simply provide the essential details required and we will provide you with an email quotation with a direct link to our online reservation form. You can also book by telephone or e-mail. Low Cost Car Rentals requires a $250AUD deposit by credit card to guarantee the vehicle, unless specified otherwise.
Q: What type of drivers licence will I require to rent a car?
A: You must provide a valid drivers licence. If your drivers licence is from overseas and is not written in English, an International Driving Permit with an English translation must be carried with the licence. An International Driving Permit must be valid for the entire term of your car rental.
Q: How can I guarantee a certain make and model of car?
A: Low Cost Car Rentals will make every effort to supply the reserved model of vehicle. However, it is impossible for us to guarantee that a specific make and model will be provided. If the make/model of vehicle that you booked is not available then the rental agent will supply a suitable alternative from the same vehicle group classification or from a larger group.
Q: What age must I be to rent a car?
You must be 21 years of age to rent a car from Low Cost Car Rentals. All drivers aged between 21 and 24 incur an additional $10.00 per day surcharge.
Q: Can I rent a vehicle with my “P” Provisional Licence?
Yes, there is an additional $14.00 per day charge for Red Provisional Licence and a $7.00 per day charge for a Green Provisional Licence.
Q: What about a specific colour?
A: Requests for specific colours will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
Q: How can I cancel my reservation, or change it once I get to Australia?
A: Reservations can be changed or cancelled however charges may apply.
Q: What documentation do I need to provide when renting ?
A: A current driver’s licence and credit card. If you are from overseas, a passport will also be required. Cards accepted are VISA, Mastercard, Dinners Club and American Express. If you are paying by American Express or Dinners Club, there is 5% surcharge.
Q: What services do you offer at airports?
A: Vehicle pick-up and drop off is available at Sydney Domestic and International airports. Airports are serviced for all flights but pre booking is required and a charge may apply.
Q: Can I upgrade my vehicle once the rental period has commenced ?
A: Upgrades are available subject to availability. Charges apply.
Q: Do you charge cancellation fees ?
A: A cancellation fee, equal to deposit, will be charged if reservation is cancelled within fourteen (14) days of booking.
Q: Can my spouse and adult children also drive the vehicle ?
A: Extra drivers are possible subject to age and licence conditions. Additional drivers who meet age and licence requirements may drive the vehicle if nominated at time of renting and added to rental agreement. Please refer to specific policy for further restrictions and conditions of renting when making your reservation.
Q: What happens in case of breakdown or accident ?
A: A statewide emergency road side assistance service is available 24 hours per day. It is called the National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA)
Q: What happens if I travel toll roads in Australia?
A: You need to pay your own tolls to avoid the Toll Authority or our Official Department to charge you the toll processing fees. We recommend you to read this before you go on the paid roads.
Q: How can I extend the rental period ?
A: Your rental period can be extended subject to availability simply by calling or emailing Low Cost Car Rentals.
Q: Do you offer reduced rates for extended stays ?
A: The longer you rent, the lower the daily rate will be.
Q: Do you offer corporate rates ?
A: Corporate rates can be provided upon request by producing your company letterhead.
Q: Do you pay commission to travel agents ?
A: Generally yes, please e-mail, phone with your request.
Q: Do I need to return the vehicle full of fuel ?
A: Rental rates don’t include the cost of fuel. All cars are presented with a full tank of fuel and whilst it is not necessary to return the car full of fuel you will be charged the cost of filling the vehicle at the end of the rental period.
Q: Does Insurance cover overseas licence holders?
A: It certainly does. However the excess amount might differ. For example, if you hold a driving permit of the country that is driving on the opposite side of the road, the Insurance company may increase the excess amount by 500AUD (see the full list of those countries here). Q: Left & lost property. What happens if I leave something behind?
A: We make every attempt to recover and return items left behind, but accept no obligation or responsibility. Any costs incurred are the renter’s responsibility. If you believe you have left something behind, contact the returning location so they can investigate.
Items found in vehicles will be held for no more than 4 weeks while we are trying to get in contact with the hirer.
If we find a lost property and the hirer has been personally notified about, the hirer has 10 days to arrange the pickup or organise the storage. We may or may not additionally get in contact with the hirer to remind them when it is due.
